A 42-strong wild Asian elephant herd has become the talk of Yunnan Province! Infrared drone footage captured the majestic group – three adults leading the way – descending into cornfields near a river in Mengla County. Their playful stroll through Mengban Town marks the largest wild elephant gathering ever recorded here.
Local monitoring teams are working 24/7 to track the herd’s movements, ensuring both elephants and villagers stay safe. \"This is nature’s magic unfolding before our eyes,\" said a forestry official. Just last April, a similar group of 41 elephants made headlines near the Shangyong Protection Area.
Why the elephant party? Experts say thriving conservation efforts in Yunnan – known as China’s biodiversity hotspot – are creating safer habitats. While these gentle giants snack on crops, officials remind everyone: Enjoy the show from a distance!
