Cyclone Remal Batters Bangladesh Coast as Millions Seek Shelter 🌪️🏠

A powerful cyclone named Remal tore through Bangladesh’s low-lying coastline Sunday, forcing nearly one million people to flee to storm shelters as fierce winds and surging waves threatened lives. 🚨 The storm, one of the strongest this year, could linger until Monday morning, officials warned.

“The severe Cyclone Remal has started crossing the Bangladesh coast,” said Azizur Rahman, director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Maximum wind speeds hit 90 km/h early on, with forecasts predicting gusts up to 130 km/h. 🌧️ Heavy rains and winds also battered parts of neighboring India.

Authorities raised the danger alert to its highest level, urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate immediately. Many coastal communities rely on concrete storm shelters built after past disasters like Cyclone Sidr (2007), which claimed thousands of lives.

Climate scientists note that rising sea temperatures are intensifying tropical storms, putting countries like Bangladesh—home to 165 million people—at greater risk. Stay tuned for updates. 📡
