The Chinese mainland is taking significant steps to combat desertification and restore its ecological environment by establishing a special fund for the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (TSFP). This ambitious afforestation project aims to plant millions of trees across northern regions to create a sustainable green barrier.
According to a circular released on Monday, the Chinese mainland has earmarked a total of 12 billion yuan (about $1.7 billion) from this year's central budget specifically for the TSFP. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has also indicated that additional funds will be allocated in the coming years based on the program's evolving needs.
