China just leveled up its eco-game ! Over the past year, the country has planted 2.67 million hectares of trees and grass under its ambitious afforestation program—that’s roughly the size of Belgium!
Launched in 1978, the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (TSFP)—the world’s largest greening project—is fighting desertification in China’s dry northern regions. Since June 2023, 56 new projects kicked off, including efforts to green the sandy landscapes of Hunshandake and Maowusu.
Desertification? Think ‘Dune’ meets real-life challenges . Nearly 30% of China’s land is desert-prone, threatening ecosystems and livelihoods. The TSFP aims to turn the tide by 2050, creating a 'Green Great Wall' to protect communities and biodiversity.
Why care? Because this isn’t just about China—healthy forests mean cleaner air, cooler climates, and a planet that breathes easier. Greta Thunberg would approve.
