China Releases 800K Endangered Sturgeons to Revive Yangtze Population 🐟🌊

In a major environmental win, over 800,000 endangered Dabry's sturgeons were released into the Yangtze River this week! 🌍 The initiative, led by the China Three Gorges Corporation, aims to revive the wild population of this ancient fish species, which hasn’t bred naturally since 2000. 🚨

Known as the 'aquatic panda' for its rarity, the Dabry's sturgeon is a first-class protected species in China and has been labeled 'critically endangered' globally since 2010. Once thriving, its numbers plummeted due to habitat changes and human activity. 📉

Why This Matters

China’s 2018 Yangtze River Sturgeon Rescue Action Plan and the 2021 Yangtze River Protection Law are driving efforts to restore biodiversity. 'These releases are like hitting the reset button for nature,' said CTG’s Qu Huantao, highlighting plans for more conservation milestones. 🌱

Since 2024 alone, CTG has reintroduced 24 million rare fish into the Yangtze—proof that eco-restoration is scaling up! 💪
