🔥 Cyprus Faces Record Heatwave: First Death Reported 🔥

Cyprus is grappling with an early summer heatwave, reaching scorching temperatures of 45°C (113°F) this Friday. Tragically, a 91-year-old woman has become the first casualty, succumbing to heatstroke at Nicosia General Hospital. 😔

Health officials have reported that the elderly woman suffered a cardiac arrest twice upon arriving at the accident and emergency department. Charalambos Charilaou, spokesperson for the state health organization, explained that the cardiac arrest was directly linked to the extreme heat.

In addition to this heartbreaking loss, five other elderly patients are currently receiving treatment for severe heatstroke symptoms. Hospitals across the island have been dealing with cases of heat exhaustion for several days. 🏥

Friday marked Cyprus's first red alert of the summer, signaling extreme heat conditions. The Meteorological Department confirmed that the maximum temperatures have soared to unprecedented levels for June, making it the hottest day ever recorded on the Mediterranean holiday island. ☀️🔥
