🔥 Athens Suburbs Battle Fiery Weekend: Fires Under Control 🌊🏠
Over the weekend, forest fires raged through the outer suburbs of Athens, but good news – they're now under control, according to firefighters on Monday.
Strong winds blowing at up to 70 km/h and dry conditions fueled two major fires on Sunday. One ignited in the seaside resort of Keratea, located east of the capital, while the other erupted in the suburb of Stamata.
Authorities swiftly evacuated the areas, but tragically, a 45-year-old man died of cardiac arrest while trying to escape the flames in Stamata. 😔
The intense fires didn't spare the local community, destroying several houses and cars, leaving residents devastated.
Firefighters continue to assess the damage and support the affected communities. Stay safe, Athens! 💪🔥
