Mass Evacuations in Anhui as Severe Rainstorms Hit East China

Heavy rainstorms have struck Anhui Province in the Chinese mainland, leaving 811,000 residents affected and forcing the evacuation of 195,000 people, local authorities reported on Sunday.
The torrential rains have wreaked havoc across 35 counties and districts in six prefecture-level cities, according to the provincial emergency management department. The Yangtze River, China's longest river, saw its water levels in Anhui exceed warning marks, with levels continuing to rise. Additionally, 19 other rivers in the province have surpassed their alert levels.
In the 24 hours leading up to 5 p.m. Sunday, an astounding 258 weather stations recorded precipitation exceeding 100 mm, with the highest reaching 255 mm.
In response to the severe weather, authorities in eight cities within Anhui, including five along the Yangtze River, have deployed a total of 26,000 personnel to patrol dikes and manage flood risks.
As the region battles these extreme weather conditions, residents are urged to stay informed and follow updates from local authorities to ensure their safety. Stay strong, Anhui!
