Landslide in Western Japan Leaves 3 Missing Amid Heavy Rain 🏞️⚠️

🌧️ Early Friday morning, a severe landslide in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, left three people missing after a massive slope collapsed.

At around 4 a.m., a mountain slope approximately 50 meters wide and 100 meters high gave way, sending mud cascading into nearby homes and an apartment building. Police and firefighters are actively searching for the missing individuals in the disaster-hit area.

In response to the tragedy, local authorities have issued a level-five evacuation alert in the Shimizu district—the highest warning level. Residents are urged to immediately move to sturdy buildings, the upper floors of their homes, or other safe locations to protect their lives.

Since Wednesday, Matsuyama has experienced 213 millimeters of rainfall, matching the area's average for July. The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned of continued heavy rain across western Japan, advising vigilance against potential landslides and flooding in low-lying regions.

With the rainy-season front set to linger from the Pacific side through Saturday, weather conditions remain unstable, raising concerns for further disasters. Stay safe and stay informed! 🌍💬✨
