🌪️ China Issues First Red Alert as Typhoon Gaemi Threatens East Coast & Taiwan

China’s National Meteorological Center raised the alarm 🚨 on Wednesday, issuing its first red alert of 2024 for Typhoon Gaemi. The storm is barreling toward the island of Taiwan and eastern coastal regions, with authorities scrambling to prepare for heavy rains and potential flooding.

Gaemi is expected to hit central/northern Taiwan by Wednesday night 🌃 before making a second landfall Thursday between Fuding and Jinjiang in Fujian province. Fujian has already upgraded its typhoon response to Level II, the second-highest emergency tier, while activating flood-preparation protocols.

⚠️ The storm could dump up to 350mm of rain in parts of Fujian—with some areas seeing over 600mm—raising risks of landslides and infrastructure damage. Schools and transportation hubs in vulnerable zones are preemptively closing, and residents are stockpiling essentials like water and batteries 🔋.

\"This typhoon’s dual landfall complicates disaster planning,\" said a Fujian Meteorological Bureau spokesperson. \"We’re urging people to avoid coastal areas and monitor official updates.\" Social media is buzzing with real-time storm tracking 📱, as locals share tips on reinforcing windows and securing outdoor items.
