🌧️ A devastating landslide in India has resulted in the loss of over 240 lives, with rescue operations severely hampered by relentless rains and strong winds. The southern coastal state of Kerala has been battered by days of torrential monsoon downpours, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the affected areas.
Local media outlet Asianet reported that the landslide struck the Indian tea plantations in Wayanad district early on Tuesday, causing widespread destruction. Blocked roads into the region have complicated relief efforts, leaving many villages isolated.
One of the most challenging obstacles has been the destruction of the only bridge connecting the worst-hit villages of Chooralmala and Mundakkai. Rescue teams have had to improvise, using makeshift zip lines over raging floodwaters to transport bodies out of the disaster zone.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and has vowed to provide comprehensive support to those affected by the tragedy.
🙏 Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this heartbreaking event. Stay safe and support your local communities during these trying times.
