Located on the western shore of Bohai Bay, Nandagang Migratory Bird Habitat in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, is a thriving coastal wetland reserve that spans 7,500 hectares. This vibrant sanctuary is home to 271 species of birds, including 16 species under first-class national protection and 52 under second-class protection. 🏞️✨
Recognized as part of the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase II), Nandagang made it to UNESCO's World Heritage List on July 26, following the Phase I sanctuaries' inscription in 2019.
This reserve is a vital stopover on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, a migration route that stretches across more than 20 countries and regions from the Arctic to Southeast Asia and Australasia. Each year, from late February to early April and again from early October to mid-December, thousands of migratory birds pause here to refuel for their long journeys. 📅✈️
Statistics show that 152 species pass through Nandagang annually, with different groups alternating every 5-10 days during the migration seasons. Continuous efforts to restore and preserve the wetlands have yielded significant progress, creating a more diverse and welcoming habitat for these feathered travelers. 🌿💚
