Climate Shift Triggers Deadly Sichuan Mudslide 🌧️🌍

Heavy Rains & Shifting Patterns Blamed for Disaster

A deadly mudslide in southwest China's Sichuan Province has claimed at least 10 lives, with 17 still missing, as heavy rains battered Ridi Village in Kangding City. The remote mountain village, nestled in a steep valley, faced severe destruction, highlighting the growing risks of extreme weather events.

Expert: Rain 'Moving West' Due to Climate Changes

Professor Wang Yunsheng, a geohazard expert at Chengdu University of Technology, linked the disaster to shifting rainfall patterns. "Global climate drivers are transitioning from El Niño to La Niña, pushing heavy rains into new areas," he explained. "Regions like Sichuan'northwest, once drier, are now facing unprecedented rainfall."

Wang noted similar trends north of the Qinling Mountains, where traditionally arid zones now grapple with downpours. "This isn't isolated—it's a broader shift," he told media during rescue efforts.
