😢 A devastating flash flood and mudslide struck Kangding in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Saturday, resulting in the loss of 10 lives and leaving 17 people missing as of Monday afternoon.
The disaster occurred around 3:30 a.m. Beijing time, when a tunnel bridge collapsed and homes in Ridi Village were destroyed. The bridge collapse caused four vehicles carrying 11 individuals to plunge, leading to three confirmed deaths, one rescue, and seven people still unaccounted for.
In Ridi Village, the tragedy was even more severe, claiming seven lives and leaving ten residents missing. 🏚️
Rescue teams are tirelessly working to locate the missing and provide aid. A massive effort has been mobilized, with 1,698 rescuers and over 400 pieces of equipment, including helicopters, drones, excavators, and communication vehicles, deployed to the affected areas.
The village sits in a valley at an altitude of 1,300 meters, surrounded by towering mountains that soar over 5,000 meters above sea level. The challenging terrain has made rescue operations particularly difficult. 🏔️
