Mozambique is taking a significant step in the fight against malaria by rolling out the malaria vaccine in its central province of Zambezia. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate one of the leading causes of hospitalization and mortality in the country.
The vaccine, administered intramuscularly, is given to children between six and 11 months of age. Armindo Tiago, the Minister of Health, announced the launch during a ceremony in Quelimane, the provincial capital of Zambezia, on Monday.
Tiago explained that for children who begin vaccination after six months, the second and third doses will be administered four weeks apart, with the fourth and final dose given six months later. This comprehensive vaccination schedule aims to provide long-lasting protection against malaria, ensuring healthier futures for the youngest members of the community.
