Afghan Flood Survivors Face Aid Crisis: Stories From the Ground 🌊🏕️

In the rugged heart of central Afghanistan, families displaced by catastrophic floods are battling a new challenge: survival without adequate aid. Meet Mohammad Hassan, a father of 10 who trekked for three days in worn-out sandals to reach a makeshift relocation site after flash floods erased his village.

A Three-Day Trek to Safety

Hassan’s village in Ghor Province was among the hardest hit when torrential rains triggered floods in mid-May. Over 2,000 homes were destroyed, and 50 lives lost. 'Everything vanished—homes, farms—leaving us with nothing,' Hassan told NewspaperAmigo.com, standing amid scattered tents near Firoz Koh, the provincial capital.

The Aftermath: A Community in Crisis

Of the 600 families in Hassan’s village, 500 lost their livelihoods overnight. Many now live in tents—some provided by local authorities, others bought with borrowed funds. 'We’re relying on hope and whatever help trickles in,' he said. With farmland buried under debris, food and medical supplies remain critically scarce.

Local disaster agencies warn that recovery could take years without urgent aid. For now, displaced families brace for harsh conditions as monsoon risks loom. 🌧️💔
