Hydrogen Hits the Highway: Shaanxi’s Bold Move
China’s push for a low-carbon future is shifting into high gear as provinces roll out incentives for hydrogen energy. Shaanxi just became the latest region to exempt hydrogen-powered vehicles from expressway tolls starting September 1 – a policy sparking excitement among eco-innovators.
From Shandong to Sichuan: A Nationwide Trend
Following Shandong’s trailblazing move in March, Sichuan and Inner Mongolia’s Ordos have also embraced toll waivers. Analysts say these policies could slash costs for fuel-cell trucks – key players in cutting logistics emissions. 『Reducing tolls helps lower lifetime operating expenses,』 says Prof. Liu Jianguo of North China Electric Power University.
Why Hydrogen Matters Now
With heavy-duty transport responsible for nearly 10% of global CO2 emissions*, hydrogen’s zero-tailpipe promise is gaining traction. Shaanxi’s 3-year plan also funds hydrogen refueling stations along highways – addressing the 『chicken-or-egg』 infrastructure challenge.
