Typhoon Yagi’s devastating floods and landslides have impacted nearly 6 million children across Southeast Asia, according to a UN report released Wednesday. The storm, which struck Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar two weeks ago, has disrupted access to clean water, healthcare, education, and shelter—leaving families in survival mode.
\"The most vulnerable children are bearing the worst consequences,\" said June Kunugi, UNICEF’s Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific. In Vietnam alone, 3 million people risk disease outbreaks due to contaminated water and poor sanitation.
UNICEF warns that recovery efforts must prioritize children’s immediate needs while rebuilding infrastructure. With monsoon season looming, the region faces a race against time.
