Erik Solheim, former head of the UN Environment Program (UNEP), dropped truth bombs at a biodiversity forum in Zhejiang Province this week: Young people are the ultimate game-changers in saving our planet.
From Hangzhou to COP29
Speaking at the East China event, Solheim called out lackluster progress at the recent COP16 biodiversity conference in Colombia. With COP29 in Azerbaijan just days away, he urged nations to ‘step up or get left behind’ on climate goals.
The big ask? Developed countries must fund climate adaptation for the world’s most vulnerable regions.
Solheim’s message to Gen Z and millennials? “Your voice, your hustle, your TikTok activism – it’s all fuel for real change.”
