Myanmar Rocked by Aftershocks After Major Quake 🌍💥

Twelve powerful aftershocks—some as strong as magnitude 7.5—continue to shake Myanmar after Friday’s devastating 7.7 earthquake. The region’s vulnerability? A 1,400-kilometer-long fault line that scientists call one of Earth’s most restless zones. 🌏🔬

According to Myanmar’s meteorology department, tremors have ranged from 2.8 to 7.5 since the initial quake. The event occurred along the Sagaing Fault, part of the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This geological battleground has birthed the Himalayas and fuels frequent quakes. 🗻💥

Jiang Haikun, a researcher at the China Earthquake Networks Center, explained: “The plates’ collision shortens the lithosphere here, triggering intense crustal shifts. The Sagaing Fault moves 20 millimeters yearly, making northern and central sections especially risky.”

Why does this matter globally? The Burmese Arc’s seismic activity affects trade routes, energy projects, and millions in South Asia. Students, travelers, and professionals, take note: Earth’s restless movements are rewriting landscapes. 🌐📉
