🌊 Over 35% of Global Fish Stocks Overfished, FAO Warns

Hold onto your sushi rolls, folks 🍣—the FAO just dropped a reality check on our oceans. Over a third of the world’s marine fish stocks are still being overfished, according to their latest report. While 64.5% are hanging in there sustainably, 35.5% are getting loved a little too hard by fishing nets. 🌍🐟

Here’s the tea: Regions like the Northeast Pacific (shoutout to that 92.7% sustainability rate!) and Southwest Pacific (85%) are crushing it with science-backed management. But other areas? Not so much. The Southeast Pacific and Eastern Central Atlantic hover around 46% sustainability—yikes. Antarctica’s the MVP, though, with a flawless 100% score. ❄️

FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu put it bluntly: "Effective management is our best tool to save fisheries." The report—crafted by 650+ experts across 92 countries—gives governments the receipts they need to step up their policies. 📊

Bottom line? We’ve got progress, but the clock’s ticking ⏰. Time to channel our inner Moana and protect the ocean’s balance—before the only fish left are the emojis.
