G77+China Summit Lights the Way for Global South

The recent G77+China Summit held in Havana, Cuba, from September 15 to 16, brought together leaders from emerging economies, representing a staggering 80% of the world's population. This pivotal gathering aimed to advance global economic justice and inclusivity.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the summit, highlighting the challenges developing countries face, including climate change and foreign debt. He called on China and the G77 nations to collaborate for a more just world.
Guterres acknowledged that the G77+China Group is a beacon for the Global South, especially at a time when opposition to multilateralism and international cooperation is rising.
Opportunities and Challenges

In today’s complex global landscape, developing nations grapple with slow economic growth, increasing debt, geopolitical unrest, environmental degradation, and rising populism. Amid these challenges, China and its partners in the G77 are working together to safeguard their interests and promote sustainable development.
Li Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized during the summit that Beijing is committed to deepening South-South and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation with G77 members. He also highlighted support for the Global Development Initiative to foster greater development and solidarity.
The BRI aligns with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on public health, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. Cooperation among participating countries has enhanced infrastructure, opened up commercial opportunities, and unlocked development potential.
