🇳🇵 Nepal’s BRI Journey: 10 Years of Growth & Connectivity 🌏✨

As the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) celebrates its 10th anniversary, Nepal stands out as a key partner in China's ambitious global connectivity project. Launched in 2013, the BRI has reshaped economies and diplomatic ties across Asia – and Nepal’s story is one of evolving infrastructure, tourism, and cross-border collaboration. 🚄🌍

From MoU to Momentum

When Nepal signed a BRI memorandum of understanding in 2017, it opened doors to critical funding for roads, railways, and airports under the Trans-Himalayan Multi-dimensional Connectivity Network. For a country where 80% of development projects rely on foreign investment, this partnership became a game-changer. 💼

Tourism, Trade & Tech

Pre-pandemic, China emerged as Nepal’s second-largest tourist source and trading partner, while BRI-linked projects like the Pokhara Regional International Airport showcased tangible progress. Cultural exchanges and 23% growth in bilateral trade between 2017-2019 further deepened ties. ✈️📈

What’s Next?

During PM Prachanda’s 2023 visit to Beijing, both nations reaffirmed commitments to faster BRI implementation. With China now Nepal’s top foreign investor, projects like the cross-border railway could soon turn the Himalayas into a bridge, not a barrier. 🏔️🔗

As Leela Mani Paudyal, Nepal’s former ambassador to China, notes: 'BRI isn’t just concrete and steel – it’s about people, opportunities, and shared futures.' 🌱
