The Second Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE) in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, showcased China's significant influence in the realm of digital trade. Held on November 24, 2023, the event served as a platform for international dialogues focused on strengthening rulemaking, regulations, management, and standards in digital trade.
Anna Veneziano, Deputy Secretary-General at the Rome-headquartered International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), highlighted China's pivotal role during an interview with CGTN's Sr. International Editor Abhishek G. Bhaya. Veneziano emphasized the practical contributions of China through technology and active participation in UNIDROIT's activities, which are instrumental in developing global legal frameworks.
\"China and Chinese experts are playing a particularly important role in the development of our legal frameworks,\" Veneziano stated. She further noted that despite the global tensions between major powers, her organization has witnessed more cooperation than rivalry among its 65 member states, including China.
The expo also addressed the importance of including voices from the Global South in shaping international laws and regulations. Veneziano pointed out the necessity for direct participation from these regions to ensure that global digital trade frameworks are inclusive and considerate of diverse economic and social realities.
As the digital economy continues to evolve, China's active involvement in forums like the GDTE underscores its commitment to fostering a balanced and transparent global digital trade environment. 🌍💡✨
