As global temperatures rise, so does the pressure on world leaders to act. Last week’s joint U.S.-China climate statement promised enhanced cooperation on green energy, but Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley isn’t impressed. “We’re treating this like a fire drill when the house is already burning,” she told NewspaperAmigo.com at the Paris Peace Forum.
Mottley, a fierce advocate for small island nations, stressed that current efforts “lack urgency and equity.” While welcoming the U.S.-China collaboration, she warned: “We can’t applaud incremental steps while entire communities face extinction.”
Her message? Speed up renewables investment, prioritize climate financing for vulnerable regions, and stop treating deadlines like suggestions. “If TikTok trends moved as slow as climate policies,” she joked, “no one would swipe up.”
