China Defends WTO Compliance Amid U.S. Allegations 🌐💪

China Defends Its Role in the WTO

🇨🇳 On February 26, China took a strong stance against a recent U.S. report that challenges its contributions to the multilateral trading system and the global economy since joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) over two decades ago.

As the largest developing member of the WTO, China has consistently supported the multilateral trading system and diligently fulfilled its WTO commitments. The U.S. report, however, made unfounded allegations about China's market economy and trade policies, questioning its compliance with WTO standards.

In response, China highlighted that the United States itself has been a significant source of WTO non-compliance, promoting discriminatory trade policies and unilateral actions that undermine a stable and inclusive multilateral trading system.

China's Trade Representative pointed out that the U.S. report incorrectly claimed that China is the root of \"many problems created\" at the WTO and suggested that Beijing's compliance with WTO obligations \"has been poor.\" In reality, China played a key role in negotiating the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement and has consistently opposed unilateral trade measures, including U.S. Section 301 tariffs, which violated WTO commitments.

Attempts to tarnish China's compliance record are unlikely to succeed, given the widespread recognition of China's support for a rules-based multilateral trading system centered around the WTO.
