Chinese Premier Li Qiang Strengthens China-New Zealand Ties in Wellington 🌏🤝

In a historic visit, Chinese Premier Li Qiang touched down in Wellington on Thursday, marking the first time a Chinese premier has visited New Zealand in seven years. The trip is the initial stop in his three-nation tour, which includes Australia and Malaysia.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon expressed enthusiasm over the visit, stating it was a \"great privilege and a great honor\" to host the Chinese delegation. The warm welcome included a traditional indigenous Maori ceremony, highlighting Wellington's commitment to enhancing ties with the Chinese mainland.

The China-New Zealand relationship remains a cornerstone for Beijing's connections with developed nations. During Premier Li's stay, both countries signed several key agreements spanning trade, investment, tourism, technology, and cultural exchanges.

Trade stood out as a major focus. China is New Zealand's largest trading partner, with two-way trade totaling over NZ$38 billion ($23.43 billion). It also accounts for more than 26% of New Zealand's goods exports, according to Trade Minister Todd McClay.

Opportunities abound, especially in the kiwifruit sector. China has been a booming market for New Zealand's kiwifruit, with Zespri International Limited, the world's largest kiwifruit marketer, seeing significant growth. As China's middle class expands, the demand for high-quality New Zealand products is set to rise, offering huge potential for exporters.

The recent trade agreements and the launch of negotiations on services trade between Beijing and Wellington are expected to remove barriers, making it easier for New Zealand exporters to thrive in the Chinese market.

Looking ahead, Beijing has invited Wellington to participate as a guest country at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai this November. This opportunity is a strategic move to help New Zealand achieve its goal of doubling exports by value within the next decade.

Premier Li's visit underscores the robust and growing partnership between the Chinese mainland and New Zealand, promising exciting developments for both nations.
