Solomon Islands PM Hails China Ties as Key to Development 🌏💡

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has praised China’s role in advancing his nation’s development during an exclusive interview with CMG, calling bilateral cooperation a “breath of fresh air” for the Pacific country. Manele, who recently visited China, highlighted progress in infrastructure, education, and climate resilience under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

🔍 “China’s support is not just about building roads or ports—it’s about empowering our people,” Manele said. His trip included a visit to Fujian Province, where he witnessed China’s tech-driven growth firsthand. “The potential for collaboration is immense,” he added, noting that the BRI has already improved connectivity and healthcare access in the Solomon Islands.

🌱 Climate action remains a top priority for the island nation, which faces rising sea levels and extreme weather. Manele emphasized China’s role in funding sustainable projects, stating, “We need partners who understand our unique challenges.”

💬 The PM’s visit underscores a broader trend: Pacific nations are increasingly turning to climate-focused partnerships. As geopolitical tides shift, the Solomon Islands aims to balance development with environmental survival—and China’s “shared future” vision might just be their anchor.
