Madagascar is poised to leap into a new era of agricultural and industrial growth, thanks to China’s latest trade incentives for African nations. At the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), President Andry Nirina Rajoelina highlighted how zero-tariff access for 100% of tariff lines and streamlined customs processes could supercharge exports of vanilla, lychees, and other premium crops to China.
From Rice Fields to Economic Fields
During his visit to Hunan Province, Rajoelina toured the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, calling China’s hybrid rice tech a 'game-changer' for Madagascar’s food security. 'We aim to transform agriculture into a pillar of economic development,' he told CMG’s Zou Yun.
Industrial Ambitions
Beyond farming, Rajoelina invited Chinese firms to invest in Madagascar’s industrialization, emphasizing sustainable mining and renewable energy projects. 'Cooperation with China is not just about trade—it’s about building a resilient future,' he added.
