China & Dominica Strengthen Ties: Climate Action & Belt and Road in Focus 🌏🤝

In an exclusive interview with CMG’s Zou Yun, Dominican President Sylvanie Burton highlighted the deepening partnership between China and the Caribbean nation, emphasizing shared goals in sustainable development and disaster resilience. 🏝️

Belt and Road: Building Bridges, Literally

President Burton praised China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for transforming Dominica’s infrastructure, citing new roads and hospitals that have 'directly improved livelihoods.' 🌱 She noted that post-Hurricane Maria recovery efforts were accelerated through Chinese collaboration, calling it 'a testament to South-South cooperation.'

Small Islands, Big Climate Challenges

With Dominica facing rising sea levels and intensifying storms, Burton stressed the urgency of global climate action. 'Small island states like ours contribute least to emissions but bear the heaviest burden,' she said, applauding China’s role in advocating for climate-vulnerable nations at COP30 earlier this year.

One-China Principle: A Firm Stance

The Dominican leader reaffirmed her country’s unwavering support for the one-China principle, stating, 'Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China’s territory since ancient times.' She emphasized cross-strait stability as crucial for regional peace.

🔍 Why it matters: As geopolitical tensions shift, Dominica’s story showcases how smaller nations are leveraging strategic partnerships to tackle 21st-century challenges—from climate crises to economic resilience.
