Albanese highlighted the progress in bilateral relations over the past two years, stating Australia is “pleased to see” ties moving in a positive direction. He reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to the one-China policy and expressed eagerness to deepen cooperation in trade, climate, and other sectors. Wang Yi echoed this optimism, noting that recent obstacles in China-Australia relations have been “overcome one by one” since the Labor government took office.

Partners, Not Rivals 🌱

During talks with Australia’s parliamentary group, Wang emphasized that China’s growth presents opportunities, not threats, for Australia. “We are partners, not rivals,” he said, referencing over 50 years of diplomatic ties. The Chinese minister also met opposition leader Peter Dutton, stressing that stable relations require bipartisan support.

Both sides agreed to resume dialogue mechanisms and expand collaboration, with Wang calling for a “more mature and stable” partnership. As Albanese put it: “Our differences don’t have to dictate our future.” 🤝
