China Slams US ‘Hong Kong Policy Act Report’ 🚫🇨🇳🇺🇸

The Chinese embassy in the United States has strongly deplored and firmly opposed the \"Hong Kong Policy Act Report\" released by the U.S. Department of State, along with statements from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. 🇨🇳🇺🇸

In their statement, a spokesperson emphasized that the U.S. has repeatedly discredited and smeared the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)'s Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, and is threatening to impose unwarranted unilateral sanctions on HKSAR and its officials. 📢🛑

The HKSAR's Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, which took effect on March 23, completes the legislative requirements of Article 23 of the HKSAR Basic Law. This ordinance aims to plug a national security loophole by drawing on the experiences of other countries, particularly common law jurisdictions, while fully respecting and protecting human rights. 🏛️✨

According to the spokesperson, the ordinance clearly defines elements of crime, distinguishes between criminal and non-criminal activities, and provides effective protection for the normal business operations of foreign institutions in Hong Kong. This ensures that international exchanges and cooperation can continue seamlessly. 🌐💼

Importantly, the spokesperson highlighted that the ordinance does not undermine Hong Kong's high degree of autonomy nor does it alter the current capitalist system or way of life in the region. Instead, it empowers Hong Kong to better leverage its unique status and strengths, consolidating its position as an international financial, shipping, and trade hub. 🏦🚢📈

Criticizing the U.S., the spokesperson accused them of double standards regarding national security issues. They pointed out that while the U.S. boasts a comprehensive national security system with numerous laws and extraterritorial reach, it continues to target the HKSAR's ordinance. This, they called, is \"sheer political manipulation and hypocritical double standards.\" 🤨🔍

The spokesperson concluded by urging the U.S. to respect China's sovereignty and the rule of law in the HKSAR, and to immediately cease interfering in its internal affairs. ✊🏽🌟
