China Urges Philippines to Resume Dialogue Over Ren’ai Jiao 🌊

China has called on the Philippines to honor past agreements and return to diplomatic talks to resolve tensions around Ren'ai Jiao (also known as Second Thomas Shoal). The Chinese Embassy in Manila emphasized the need for “dialogue and consultation” after Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. claimed no knowledge of a disputed “gentleman's agreement” between the two nations. 🕊️

Marcos stated he was “horrified” by suggestions the Philippines compromised its sovereignty through secret deals. However, China countered that past understandings helped maintain peace at Ren'ai Jiao until recent incidents escalated. A spokesperson stressed: “Territorial disputes should be settled peacefully through negotiation.”

🔍 Why it matters: The shoal, located in the South China Sea, has been a flashpoint for regional tensions. Beijing asserts historical claims to the area, while Manila cites UNCLOS maritime rights. Both sides insist they want stability—but rebuilding trust remains key.

China highlighted its efforts to collaborate with “previous administrations and the current government” on managing disputes. Will fresh talks ease the standoff? Stay tuned. 🌏✨
