In a significant meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated China’s steadfast position on the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Ukraine crisis.
Xi emphasized China’s support for a two-state solution as the key to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. He advocated for a comprehensive peace conference aimed at bringing Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table to address the Ukraine crisis.
Highlighting the prolonged tragedy in Gaza, Xi called it a test for human conscience and urged the international community to take decisive action. He appealed to all parties involved to work towards an immediate, comprehensive, and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.
On the Palestinian issue, Xi expressed China’s support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and the restoration of its legitimate national rights. He reiterated the importance of restarting the two-state solution to ensure enduring peace in the region.
Addressing the Ukraine crisis, Xi clarified that China is not a party to the conflict but is actively contributing to peace efforts. He mentioned that China’s special representative on Eurasian affairs has begun his third round of shuttle diplomacy to foster a political settlement.
Xi also condemned attempts to misuse the Ukraine crisis to scapegoat or smear third countries or to ignite a \"new Cold War.\" He stressed that history has shown conflicts can only be resolved through negotiation and called for all parties to resume dialogue and build mutual trust.
Looking ahead, Xi expressed China’s support for holding an international peace conference recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, ensuring equal participation and fair discussions on all peace plans. He concluded by affirming China’s commitment to a balanced, effective, and sustainable security architecture in Europe.
