China Backs Global Justice for Peace at UN Meeting 🌍⚖️

China’s deputy UN envoy Dai Bing made a bold call for international accountability this week, urging the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prioritize fairness and unity while addressing crimes in Libya. Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing, Dai stressed that lasting peace in the region must come before justice can truly be served. 🕊️

🔍 “The ICC must respect Libya’s judicial sovereignty and avoid double standards,” he said, referencing the court’s ongoing investigation into alleged crimes linked to the 2011 conflict. Dai emphasized China’s support for prosecuting grave offenses but insisted the process should “amplify solidarity, not divisions.”

🌐 The diplomat also pushed back against external interference, urging global powers to let Libyans lead their own political transition. “No forced solutions,” he added, sparking nods from advocates of national self-determination.

⚖️ While backing the ICC’s mission, Dai reminded the court to stick to its founding principles – including the ‘complementarity’ rule that lets countries handle cases domestically first. His message? Justice matters, but not at the cost of stability.

With crises like Libya testing global institutions, China’s stance offers a roadmap: less geopolitics, more ground-up solutions. 💡
