Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi doubled down on China’s opposition to the U.S. blockade against Cuba during a high-profile meeting in Beijing this week. “China resolutely opposes the U.S.’s unreasonable blockade,” Wang told Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Special Envoy and Foreign Minister, as the two nations pledged deeper cooperation.

Wang, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised Cuba for its “adherence to truth and defiance of power,” highlighting mutual support on global issues. The two sides agreed to build a “community with a shared future,” aligning their socialist visions and boosting ties in trade, infrastructure, and diplomacy.

Rodriguez thanked China for backing Cuba against U.S. sanctions, which have strained its economy. He reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to the one-China principle, a cornerstone of cross-strait policy. Both nations vowed to defend the sovereignty of developing countries and counter what they called “unilateral coercion” by powerful states.

The talks also covered China-Latin America collaboration, signaling Beijing’s growing role in the Global South. As Wang put it: “Solidarity isn’t just a word—it’s action.”
