Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is taking a strong stance on the South China Sea disputes, emphasizing the importance of ASEAN-driven diplomacy to resolve tensions.
Speaking at the 37th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar called for \"aggressive\" diplomatic engagement, firmly rejecting any interference from external parties.
When asked by a Philippine delegate about Malaysia’s approach as the ASEAN Chair for 2025, Anwar assured that Malaysia will continue its active role within the ASEAN framework to address regional concerns.
He highlighted Malaysia’s success in handling the South China Sea issue diplomatically, attributing it to the country's neutral position in negotiations.
\"There should not be involvement with other parties because it will be deemed to be more complex and will complicate the matter,\" Anwar stated, underscoring the need for resolution among ASEAN members and China alone.
