The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) have extended their heartfelt gratitude to the central government for supporting and recognizing their regions' roles in national space endeavors.
The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced on Tuesday that ten candidates have been selected for China's fourth batch of astronauts. Among these, two are payload specialists—one from Hong Kong and the other from Macao.
HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee expressed his pride, highlighting that this marks the first time a payload expert from Hong Kong has become an astronaut. "I am extremely uplifted and encouraged by this good news," Lee said.
Lee also thanked the central government for including Hong Kong candidates in the selection process, emphasizing it as a testament to the support for Hong Kong's sci-tech development. He noted that research and development teams from Hong Kong's universities have consistently contributed to national space projects, showcasing the city's innovative prowess.
The HKSAR government is committed to rolling out initiatives to nurture more talents and establish Hong Kong as an international sci-tech innovation hub.
