Guinea Aims for New Constitution by 2024 End 🗳️

Guinea’s Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté has announced that the West African nation will adopt a new constitution by December 31, 2024, marking a major milestone in its transition to civilian rule. The move comes after Colonel Mamady Doumbouya’s administration agreed to a democratic roadmap with ECOWAS following the 2021 political shift.

🗣️ Speaking at the Crans Montana Forum in Brussels, Kouyaté described the timeline as “dynamic” but emphasized confidence in meeting the year-end goal. “The main battle will be won… the new Guinean Constitution will be adopted on the ground,” he told CGTN Europe.

🌍 The minister highlighted the importance of crafting a governance model tailored to Guinea’s unique context rather than importing foreign systems. “Democracy isn’t one-size-fits-all,” he implied, signaling a push for homegrown solutions amid regional instability.

ECOWAS continues to monitor the transition, which began after Doumbouya pledged to restore elected governance. While details remain fluid, Kouyaté’s update offers hope for stability in a region often rocked by coups. 💥
