From July 9 to 13, Zhao Leji, chairman of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, embarked on an official goodwill visit to Russia. Invited by Viacheslav Volodin, chairman of the Russian parliament’s lower house, the State Duma, and Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council, Zhao aimed to strengthen the already robust China-Russia relationship. 🤝🌏
During his visit, Zhao met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg and engaged in separate discussions with Matviyenko and Volodin in Moscow. He also took part in the 9th meeting of the China-Russia Committee for Parliamentary Cooperation, highlighting the deepening legislative collaboration between the two nations.
Zhao conveyed warm greetings and good wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping to President Putin, emphasizing the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. He noted that under the strategic guidance of their leaders, the comprehensive strategic partnership has flourished, bringing tangible benefits to both countries.
Reflecting on the recent meeting between Xi and Putin in Astana, Zhao expressed China’s eagerness to work with the Russian Federal Assembly to implement key strategic agreements at the legislative level. This collaboration aims to enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and strengthen the friendship between the two peoples.
President Putin reciprocated the greetings and highlighted the successful discussions with Xi during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana. He emphasized the strong cooperation between Russian and Chinese legislative bodies, which fosters a favorable environment for economic, cultural, and legal advancements.
