China has suspended talks with the U.S. on arms control and non-proliferation, citing Washington’s “negative measures” that “undermine mutual trust,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday. The move signals a fresh chill in U.S.-China relations amid escalating disputes over Taiwan.
Spokesperson Lin Jian stated the suspension stems from U.S. arms sales to the Taiwan region, which Beijing views as a violation of its core interests. “The political atmosphere for these consultations has been damaged by the U.S. side,” Lin emphasized, accusing Washington of ignoring China’s repeated objections.
