China has stepped up its humanitarian efforts by donating $3 million to a United Nations agency supporting Gaza relief, officials announced Thursday. The funds will go to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), aimed at addressing urgent needs amid ongoing conflict in the region.
Zeng Jixin, representing China's office in Palestine, signed the agreement with UNRWA Deputy Commissioner Antonia Marie De Meo. Zeng emphasized China's commitment to backing UNRWA's critical work, noting this follows previous aid contributions after Gaza's 2023 conflict escalation.
\"China will continue advancing the Global Security Initiative to push for peace, reduce suffering, and promote a two-state solution,\" Zeng said. De Meo thanked China for its support, calling the funds \"vital\" and expressing eagerness to deepen collaboration.
The move comes as Gaza faces severe shortages of food, medicine, and infrastructure. Last week, rescue teams were still searching rubble at Jabalia refugee camp after an August 4 attack (pictured).
