A state of emergency has been declared in Russia's Kursk region following a significant offensive by Ukrainian forces. 🚨
At 8 a.m. local time, Ukraine's 22nd Mechanized Brigade, equipped with 11 tanks and over 20 armored combat vehicles, launched a massive attack on Russian border defense positions near Nikolaevo-Daryino and Oleshnya. Regional officials announced that access to specific areas would be restricted to manage the situation.
\"The move was necessary to eliminate the consequences of enemy forces coming into the region,\" stated Acting Regional Governor Alexei Smirnov.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 31 civilians, including six children, were injured in the attack. In response, Russia's National Guard has heightened security measures around the nearby Kursk nuclear power station and its four reactors to ensure safety. 🛡️
This escalation follows Russia's assertion that it has advanced significantly this year, reclaiming 420 square kilometers of territory from Ukrainian forces since June 14. The latest offensive saw Ukrainian troops pushing northwest of the border town of Sudzha, approximately 530 km southwest of Moscow, continuing into the early hours of Wednesday.
President Vladimir Putin condemned the assault, labeling it \"another major provocation\" by the Kyiv regime. 🗣️
