China Boosts Legal Protections for Food Delivery Workers 🛵⚖️

China's top legal watchdog is stepping up efforts to protect millions of gig economy workers, from food delivery riders to ride-hail drivers, in a major push for labor rights reform. 🌟 The Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) announced this week that over 120 public interest lawsuits have been filed since February to address unfair treatment of platform-based workers.

Algorithmic Overload Targeted

The SPP revealed it’s pressuring tech companies to overhaul their delivery algorithms, which often force workers to complete unrealistic numbers of orders within tight timeframes. ⏱️💻 One landmark case directly handled by the SPP could set new standards for fair workload distribution.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups

Beyond gig workers, the campaign also safeguards:
✨ Rural migrant workers
✨ Workers with disabilities
✨ Female employees’ rights (230+ cases address maternity leave and workplace safety during pregnancy)

Wage Justice Wins

Prosecutors have recovered 54 million yuan ($7.56M) in unpaid wages through 420+ wage-theft cases in six months. 💸📉 \"No one should work without fair compensation,\" the SPP statement emphasized.
