Over 2,000 young changemakers from 130+ countries and 20 international organizations kicked off the 2024 World Youth Development Forum in Beijing this Monday, coinciding with International Youth Day. The event blends on-site and virtual participation, spotlighting youth-led solutions to global challenges like climate action, tech innovation, and cultural preservation.
In a video address, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed called youth the 'driving force' behind the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. She emphasized creating platforms for young voices and prioritizing education: 'Your ideas can shape democracies and peaceful societies – let’s make space for them.'
Participants will later explore cities like Hangzhou (hello, tech hub! ) and Nanning to discuss green energy, AI’s role in cultural innovation, and building youth-friendly urban spaces. The forum’s theme, 'Together for a Better Future,' aligns with both UN sustainability targets and China’s Global Development Initiative.
Co-hosted by the All-China Youth Federation and UN China, this marks the forum’s second edition since its 2022 debut. With over 500 youth leaders at the opening ceremony, the event highlights cross-border collaboration – because solving TikTok-era problems needs Gen-Z energy.
