Big news in international relations! Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Monday that China-South Africa ties are being elevated to an all-round strategic cooperative partnership for the new era.
Ramaphosa is currently in China for a state visit and to kick off the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which runs from Wednesday to Friday.
During their meeting, President Xi emphasized that strengthening solidarity and cooperation between China and South Africa aligns with both nations' aspirations and the growth of the Global South.
Xi highlighted the importance of high-level strategic mutual trust and called for joint efforts to enhance Belt and Road initiatives, boost the digital economy, advance artificial intelligence and new energy projects, and improve human resources development.
He also mentioned that China is committed to opening its doors wider to African countries, aiming to create new momentum for cooperation and promote the high-quality development of China-Africa partnerships.
In these complex international times, Xi stressed that Global South countries must uphold independence, strengthen unity, and work together to safeguard international fairness and justice.
