Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to deepen cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during a high-stakes meeting with DRC President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in Beijing. The leaders discussed plans to unlock the African nation’s vast natural resources while strengthening their ‘comprehensive strategic partnership.’

The talks coincided with the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit, described by Tshisekedi as a ‘key opportunity’ for African growth. Over 50 African leaders are attending the event, dubbed China’s largest diplomatic gathering in years.

‘Our cooperation is built on equality, respect, and mutual trust,’ said Tshisekedi, praising the ‘win-win’ outcomes of the partnership. From infrastructure to tech, both nations aim to balance resource potential with sustainable progress.
