A Chinese envoy on Thursday called on all Somali parties to keep up the momentum, strengthen dialogue and unity, and stay committed to resolving differences through dialogue. 🕊️
Speaking at the UN Security Council briefing on Somalia, Dai Bing, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, highlighted Somalia's significant progress in national reconstruction and peacekeeping efforts. He noted that both the UN and African Union (AU) missions are now entering a critical transition period.
"At this important stage, the support and assistance of the international community cannot relax," Dai emphasized. 🌐
He outlined three key points for Somalia's continued development:
Maintaining political stability
Strengthening the foundation of security transition
Advancing the transition of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) in an orderly manner
Dai also praised the Somali federal government for maintaining effective communication with federal member states and achieving important consensus on the constitution, elections, and political parties. "We expect all Somali parties to keep up the momentum, strengthen dialogue and unity, and stay committed to resolving differences through dialogue," he stated.
Reiterating China's consistent support, he affirmed the country's backing of Somalia's efforts to safeguard national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
