In a recent UN Security Council briefing, a Chinese envoy emphasized the importance of dialogue and unity among Somali parties to continue the progress made in national reconstruction and peace efforts.
China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Dai Bing, highlighted that Somalia has achieved significant milestones in recent years, particularly in enhancing peace and security. With the UN and African Union missions entering a critical transition period, Dai stressed the need for ongoing international support.
\"At this important stage, the support and assistance of the international community cannot relax,\" he stated. Dai outlined three key areas of focus: maintaining political stability, strengthening the security transition foundation, and ensuring the orderly advancement of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) transition.
He lauded the Somali federal government for its effective communication with federal member states, reaching consensus on crucial matters like the constitution, elections, and political parties. \"We expect all Somali parties to keep up the momentum, strengthen dialogue and unity, and stay committed to resolving differences through dialogue,\" Dai added.
China continues to support Somalia's efforts to safeguard national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The envoy called on the international community to assist Somalia in finding a development path tailored to its national conditions, ensuring long-term and stable growth.
