Hold onto your passports! Residents of Taiwan made over 4.02 million trips to the Chinese mainland in 2024—a whopping 54.3% jump from 2023. The travel boom comes as cross-strait exchanges hit new highs, with officials highlighting Fujian Province as a hotspot for cultural and economic integration.
Fujian: The Cross-Strait Bridge
Southeastern Fujian, dubbed a \"demonstration zone\" for cross-strait ties, welcomed 920,000 Taiwan visitors this year (up 53.3%). Direct ferry routes between Fujian’s coast and islands like Kinmen and Mazu saw 1.37 million passengers, with weekly trips now reaching 210.
Tourism Revival in Focus
Post-pandemic travel is thriving! Kinmen hosted over 42,500 tourists since Fujian residents resumed visits in late 2023, while Mazu saw nearly 1,000. \"We’re committed to deepening connections,\" said Chen Binhua of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasizing smoother travel for work, study, and leisure.
With easier access and rising demand, 2024 could be just the start of a cross-strait travel revolution. Stay tuned for more updates!
